Mugs in porduction

A set of seven mugs in production in the studio. The picture shows them at the "leather hard" stage - after they have been thrown on the wheel and the handles applied. The clay is dark red-brown at this stage and dries out to look a pale pink. The mugs were later dipped in white slip and then fired to 980 deg C. They were then decorated with oxide and clear glaze and fired again - this time to 1260 deg C - which is about six times hotter than a domestic oven.
